Rain-Sound Melodies: A Choral Workshop with Yang I-Chen and the Taichung Chamber Choir

Step into the vibrant world of Taiwanese choral artistry with the Taichung Chamber Choir, visiting Singapore for a special concert tour this August! On Monday, 4th August 2025, join us for an inspiring 90-minute workshop at Aliwal Arts Centre, Room 03-01, starting at 7:30pm.

This exclusive workshop is designed for choristers and vocal enthusiasts eager to broaden their musical horizons and discover the rich tapestry of Taiwanese choral repertoire. Under the guidance of the acclaimed Taichung Chamber Choir, participants will explore two distinct and beloved pieces:

• "April Rain" (四月望雨), arranged by Jan Tien-hao: Experience the lyrical beauty of this classic Taiwanese Hokkien song, specially arranged for SATB voices with piano accompaniment. Delve into expressive phrasing, unique harmonies, and the cultural nuances that make this piece a gem of East Asian choral music.
• "Under the Flowering Tree" (花樹下), arranged by Yu-Ju Liu (Voco Novo): Discover the evocative soundscape of this well-known Taiwanese Hakka a cappella work, arranged for SATBarB. Learn the stylistic intricacies and vocal colors that bring this folk-inspired piece to life.

As a highlight, the choir will also present a demonstration performance of "Rainy Day" (落水天), arranged by Ko Matsushita—another iconic Hakka a cappella piece that showcases the ensemble’s artistry and the expressive power of Taiwanese choral traditions.
