Vox Camerata Community Choir

Vox Camerata Community Choir

Vox Camerata Community Choir was established with a mission; to make good choral music accessible to anyone who is keen on making choral music, regardless of their musical knowledge, background and experience. We drew inspiration from the spirit of the Florentine Camerata, that we are simply people from all walks of life coming together to discuss and learn more about the melodious delights our voices can create. We have all been drawn like moths to a candle-flame, in our weekly discovery of the simple delight of making music.

Since our maiden recital held in November 2004 at the function room of the Kampung Ubi Community Center, the choir has gone on to bring its annual Musica Intimae concerts to the Legends@Fort Canning, the Esplanade Recital Studio and the Chamber@Arts House. The choir also had the pleasure of working with both amateur and  professional musicians locally and abroad through the years, most recently with Tim Eriksen during the Tapestry of Sacred Music Festival 2014. Renewed in our sense of purpose in celebrating our 10th anniversary last year, the choir instated a new concert series entitled Collegia Musica as a firm commitment to our mission to bring good choral music to the community. With Adventure! our annual Christmas concert series, this makes a grand total of three key concerts a year.

Despite the new ground the community choir breaks into, and the higher standards it sets for its performers, it remains a non-auditioned community vocal ensemble. The environment maintained during rehearsals and performances is reflected in our mission: a safe, all-inclusive and yet culturally, racially and religiously sensitive to every individual member of the choir. We are not merely a group of singers trying to forge an existence in Singapore. Rather, we are a group of friends who happen to sing together and who enjoy making music together.
